Bob Jones and Rob Penner guide Basileia's basic programme, however we will include other Christian men and women who have the experience, gifts and commitment to participate in Basileia's courses and community. Rob and Bob are not only pastoral colleagues, but more importantly they have become friends in Christ over the years in Canada and Hong Kong. Also Basileia is privileged to have Kwen Ip and Wade Wollins partner with us in this new project.
Bob has lived and worked in Hong Kong as a pastor for over 10 years. Before entering pastoral ministry he served in the military and then worked in the commercial sector in the U.S. Prior to coming to Hong Kong Bob pastored in Canada for several years and taught at a theological school in Papua New Guinea. He now lives in Canada and serves as a part-time chaplain in a local hospital, but continues to travel to Hong Kong for extended periods of time. He has a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Oklahoma and has completed graduate degrees at Regent College, Vancouver, Canada (MCS and Th.M.) in Christian Spirituality and Interdisciplinary Studies respectively. Bob is married to Amy and they have four grown children and are grandparents to three lively boys.
Rob has lived in Asia for most of his life, first as a missionary, then a pastor, then a missionary again and now once more as a pastor. He majored in Old Testament at Regent College, Vancouver, Canada (MCS and ThM), and has completed a Doctor of Inter-cultural Studies program at Western seminary, focusing on the Gospel of Matthew. Rob is fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese. He is married to Joy, and is father to two Chinese sons, Yik Wah (married to Penny) and Yik Man. His newest passion is a grandson, Noah.
Kwen is from Malaysia; leaving home for further studies in England at 17, she never made it back. This was the fault of Alex who, 33 years ago, wooed and married her after graduation. They have 3 adult kids: boy-boy-girl. Kwen was also pursued by a Greater One, to whom she said "Yes" in her teens, and with whom she has been journeying on an unimaginable adventure: through profiteering corporate life (20 years in Telecoms, Organisation Development Consultancy and Executive Coaching); humbling non-profit life (10 years as Managing Director of ELIC HK); and now in ministry as Director of Women’s Ministry at Island ECC. Kwen is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bethany Ministries, a retreat centre for cross-cultural workers in the region, and a member of the President's Council for ELIC.
Wade has lived and worked in Hong Kong since 2007, and is currently serving as the Spiritual Formation Pastor at Community Church. Before coming to Hong Kong he served at NewSong Church, San Dimas, CA as the Pastor of Community and Care. Wade received his seminary training from Fuller Theological School in Pasadena, CA. He has been married for over 20 years to his wife Erica, and they have two children—one in university and one still living at home. When Wade is not in the office, he’s enjoying the green spaces of Hong Kong.
Christ... is more of an artist than the artists; he works in the living spirit and the living flesh; he makes men instead of statues.
-Vincent Van Gogh, The Complete Letters
